Rapid infusion of large volumes of cold blood can depress the body temperature and result in metabolic complications, such as acidosis, hyperkalaemia, hypocalcaemia, and so on.
This is rarely seen outside the massive transfusion setting.
Perform electrolyte analysis and cardiac monitoring.
Slow rate of infusion. Use blood warmers where appropriate. Use fresh blood components.
