Clive Seed, BSc, PhD (Dist)

Clive Seed is a Blood Safety Analyst at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and is actively involved in surveillance of and risk modelling for infectious diseases of importance to transfusion.

I have a clinical and research background focusing initially on the immunobiology and diagnosis of HIV before moving to the Blood Service.

My PhD thesis explored the application of mathematical modelling to safeguard the blood supply from transfusion-transmissible infectious diseases.

I have presented at numerous national and international meetings and have published over 30 peer reviewed articles and several reviews predominantly focused on infectious diseases. I am also a reviewer for two leading transfusion journals.

As well as having a primary role in blood safety policy development, I also coordinate the annual estimation and publication of residual risk estimates for transfusion-transmissible pathogens including HIV, HCV, HBV and HTLV.
