Review of Blood Donor Deferral Policies

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service has commissioned a review of current deferral policies relating to the sexual activity of blood donors.

The aim of the review is to ensure the deferral policies and the questions donors are asked are scientifically based, are relevant to Australia, and are in keeping with international practice.

Organisations and members of the public are invited to make submissions to the Review Committee addressing concerns and providing suggestions regarding Blood Service deferral criteria relating to sexual activity.

The Review Committee will provide independent advice to the Blood Service.

Details of the review and submission process can be found at www.bloodrulesreview.com.au.

Deadline for submissions is 6 November 2010.
