Blood Service in Brief Edition 14, January 2016

From the Chief Executive

It’s with mixed emotions that I approach my last Blood Service in Brief as Chief Executive of the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood. In seven years with this extraordinary organisation I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working collaboratively with professionals from across the Australian blood sector. During that time, together we’ve made our industry more resilient, more efficient and safer. Thank you.

But, new years are a time for new beginnings, and there’s no space for reminiscing. This edition is full of stories on topics including a trial for exciting new RFID tagging technology (which could eventually replace blood product barcodes), 2015’s Strategic Blood Forum, and the recent O negative red cell and AB plasma use surveys kindly completed by our customers.

We’re also celebrating the opening of the new Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria premises and a life-saving blood group gene discovery by a Blood Service researcher.

If you have any topics or information you would like to see in the next edition, please suggest them at bloodservicecommunication@redcrossblood.org.au

Once again, thank you for your support and dedication over the past seven years and you will be hearing from Shelly Park, the incoming CEO, from March 2016.

All the best,

Jennifer Williams
Chief Executive
