Residual risk for transfusion-transmitted hepatitis B

Dr Clive Seed and colleagues have recently published refinements to their model which the Blood Service uses to estimate the residual risk for transfusion-transmitted hepatitis B in Australia.

In common with hepatitis C, HTLV and HIV, the risk of acquiring hepatitis B from transfusion is now considered to be less than 1:1 million per unit transfused compared with the previous figure of approximately 1:557,000.
