If you’re a health professional or just have a professional interest in blood, the launch of the Blood Service’s Transfusion Education 2017 Calendar is the one you’ve been waiting for.

These sessions continue to grow in popularity every year and are designed to support you to either refresh or improve your blood and transfusion knowledge and practice.

Tailored to professionals just starting their career through to advanced scientists and clinicians, the calendar is offered through a combination of face-to-face workshops and seminars, self-paced eLearning and recorded webinars. Choose from learning options that include rapid-fire 30-minute knowledge transfer sessions to interactive workshops focusing on the practical aspects of transfusion medicine, practice and science.

Continuing professional development points are awarded for all completed sessions.

What’s happening in the next three months?

1 February
Haematology registrar transfusion education webinars released. These webinars include the following topics: basic immunohaematology, blood groups, adverse events, and more.

15 March
Medical management for a patient who refuses a transfusion - 1:30pm (EST). Learning outcomes:
• Improve awareness of the principles for anaemia identification and management
• Improve awareness of blood conservation techniques
• Identify opportunities to minimise and manage bleeding risk

29 March
Epitopes, immunology and the HLA platelet donor panel – 1:30pm local time, Melbourne Processing Centre

19 April
A day in the life of an obstetric/paediatric transfusion laboratory – 1:30pm (EST). Learning outcomes:
• Improve awareness of what happens in a transfusion laboratory servicing an obstetric and neonatal/paediatric hospital environment
• Identify key challenges faced by the transfusion laboratory
